APC states’ chairmen admit party membership strength of 41 million was a ruse

The 36 states’ Chairmen of the All progressives Congress (APC) have owned up to the reality that the membership strength of the party was not up to 41 million widely touted when Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State held away.

The Chairman, Cross River State chapter of the party and secretary, forum of APC State Chairmen, Mr. Alphonsus Ogah, who bared his mind at a parley with Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje led National Working Committee (NWC) referred to the votes garnered by the APC in the presidential poll to buttress his assertion.

Ogah assured that a true reflection of the membership strength of the party would be known at the end of the nationwide electronic registration of members being embarked upon by the Ganduje led NWC.

Said he: “Our national chairman came very prepared. He was focused in doing away with the fantasmagorial and the delusion of APC parading 41 million people when in reality we went into an election where we barely got almost nine million votes. It is time to face reality, because we have a president who is a progressive.

“We have a national chairman who is a progressive. You have state chairmen who are very progressively minded. And therefore we will be most comfortable if today we know we have 10 million registered members in APC but we must match them with their PVCs.

“If you don’t have any PVC, we would await until the time you get your PVCs to now register with us so that we can match your registration with the PVC and we will be able to make a prognostication on what can be the outcome of an election even before 2027.”

Ganduje, who elicited the support of the states chairmen in the conduct of the exercise at the grassroots level, pledged to ensure the entrenchment of a reward system in the party.
