APC wins Katsina guber poll with more than 300,000 votes

The governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Katsina State, Dr Dikko Radda won Saturday’s gubernatorial election by more than 300,000 votes.

Radda, who contested against 11 other candidates, won by garnering 859,892 votes which is a landslide in 33 of the 34 Local Government Areas of the state.

His closet rival, Senator Yakubu Lado of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), came second with 486,620 votes, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Engr Nura Khalil came third with 8,263 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer (RO) for the governorship election in the state, Prof Muazu Abubakar announced the result Sunday night at the INEC headquarters in the state.


“That Umar Dikko Radda, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and is hereby elected” as governor,” the RO said.

He said elections at 88 polling units were cancelled due to violence, thuggery, and other related challenges.

He added that 63,811 registered voters were affected and that 44,309 PVCs were collected in the affected areas.
