Niger State Youths Progressive Alliance (NYPA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to appoint the next Managing Director (MD) of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) from the state.

According to them, the state that hosts the four hydroelectricity dams for over five decades has not been given the opportunity to produce the MD or Executive Director (ED) in the power sector.

The Director General of NYPA, Abubakar Turaki, made the group’s position known during a briefing at NUT Multipurpose Conference Hall, Minna, over the weekend.

Turaki reiterated that since inception, the power sector never saw a bona fide indigene of Niger presiding over its affairs, adding that “there were many professionals of the sector in Niger capable of handling the task.”

Other offshoots of the power sector, including Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), National Integrated Power Project (NIPP)., Hydro Electricity Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC), he alleged, are largely headed by persons from outside the state.
