To ensure inclusivity and encourage broader participation, the Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) Nigeria has unveiled guidelines that govern the creation and operation of sectoral groups for members.
The institute said that in the coming weeks, it would focus on the formal constitution of the sectoral groups. President and Chairman of Governing Council, CIoD, Tijjani Borodo, in a message to members to join sectoral groups, said the move was a pivotal step in advancing the institute’s governance structure, even as he encouraged all members to actively participate by selecting their preferred groups.
He said following approval by the governing council, the institute has taken significant steps to align its governance framework with the provisions of the Establishment Act of the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria.
Among the notable changes, Borodo said are the reconstitution of the governing council, the dissolution of the executive committees, and the transformation of policy committees into sectoral groups. He said the long-standing tradition of convening eight policy committees has served the institute well, fostering robust dialogue and policy development.
However, in line with its commitment to continuous improvement, he said the committees have been restructured into sectoral groups. This strategic move, the CIoD boss said, aims to enhance the institute’s advocacy and stakeholder engagement efforts by addressing sector-specific challenges and opportunities more effectively.
He listed the approved sectoral groups to include, power and energy, information technology, oil and gas, telecommunication, banking and financial services, capital market, agric and agro-allied, industrial, tourism and hospitality, transport and logistics, insurance, professional services, health and social services and CIoD Nigeria women group.
“These sectoral groups are aligned with the institute’s mission to drive meaningful change and influence policies that benefit our members and the industries they represent. Members are advised to limit their selection to a maximum of three sectoral groups to ensure active participation and meaningful engagement.
“We deeply value your unwavering commitment to the goals of the institute and look forward to your active involvement in this critical exercise. Together, we will continue to shape the future of CIoD Nigeria and make impactful contributions to our industries and society,” he said.
