The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Lagos State branch, has inaugurated its newly elected executive committee led by Akinwunmi Lawal.
Lawal, who emerged as the 18th Chairman of the branch, was inaugurated alongside Dr Abosede Yinka-Ogundimi as first Vice-Chairman; Oyelayo Adekanye, as second Vice-Chairman; Damilola Owoeye, as Treasurer; Nze Robert Nnaji, as Secretary; and Pascal Nsoromotu, as Auditor, among others, who will steer the branch’s affairs for the 2025–2027 term.
The ceremony took place during the institute’s 2025 yearly general meeting, where members reviewed the branch’s performance, noting that despite economic challenges and rising inflation, the Lagos Branch maintained steady membership growth and continued to strengthen its presence within the professional landscape.
In his acceptance speech, Lawal described his appointment as a sacred responsibility, pledged to reposition the Lagos Branch for sustainable growth, inclusiveness, and professional excellence.
He said the new executive would focus on membership drive, financial sustainability, and the construction of the proposed Lagos Bankers’ House.
Outgoing chairman, Adeoye Adeyemo, who served from 2023 to 2025, expressed gratitude to members for their support, citing record financial growth and the branch’s consistent recognition as the institute’s best-performing chapter for three consecutive years.
“Lawal commended the President and Chairman of Council, Prof. Pius Deji Olanrewaju, for his visionary leadership and the ‘LEGACY’ agenda that has positively impacted the Lagos Branch, describing it as an inspiration for continued excellence across the banking profession. He assured members that the new committee would sustain the branch’s progress and deepen collaboration across the financial sector.
“With your support, guidance, and commitment, we shall sustain the legacy, expand our impact, and build a stronger future for generations to come,” Lawal said.
