Nigerians have been assured that insecurity will be brought to its knees this year, as the Army and other security agencies promised to redouble efforts in tackling insecurity.

The Army also promised to be unwavering in its defence of democracy and rule of law.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, emphasised that improved welfare of officers, soldiers and their families as well as their accommodation across barracks and cantonment, would be his priority this year.

Speaking during the Nigerian Army Finance Corps’ West African Social Activities (WASA), in Apapa, Lagos, yesterday, the COAS revealed President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering support and interest in the welfare of Army personnel.

He stressed that the Army would continue to invest in programmes and initiatives to enhance the wellbeing of troops, irrespective of the belt-tightening measures that government policies might require.

Describing welfare as the number one pillar upon which sound administration rests in his command philosophy, the COAS, reassured troops that their welfare tops his agenda for the Army.

He pledged not to fail in improving troops’ welfare at every opportunity.

Lagbaja urged the troops to be on the lookout, as more efforts to improve their accommodation across barracks and cantonments would become visible in the new year.

In his welcome address, the Chief of Accounts and Budget, Maj-Gen. Adetokunbo Fayemiwo,  said in 2024, the Nigerian  Army Finance Corps would focus on strengthening financial technology, budgeting, auditing and training to enhance the capacity of its men, as well as ensure that resources allocated in the budget were applied efficiently, in line with strategic end state, to maximise the attainment of capabilities required by the Nigerian Army.

According to Fayemiwo, this is to ensure value for money and curb wastages.

While commending the COAS for providing resources for training and his commitment to the welfare of Nigerian Army Finance personnel, Fayemiwo said the corps provided the needed financial support services for the Army internal security operations and training activities conducted across the country.

In his vote of thanks, the Commander, Command Finance Corps, Maj-Gen. Maradun Galadima, commended the COAS, for his passion and commitment to transform the Army into a well-trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving its constitutional responsibilities.
