Inkblot, Filmhouse Unveil Global Streaming Platform, KAVA
In what has been described as a landmark moment for African entertainment and a bold era for the entertainment industry in sub-Saharan Africa, two of Africa’s leading entertainment companies, Inkblot and Filmhouse Group, have unveiled KAVA, promoted as the world’s first dedicated Nollywood streaming platform. The unveiling ceremony, which held on July 24 in Lagos, attracted quality guests including the DG of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Dr. Shaibu Husseini, DG of the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation (CBAAC), Aisha Augie; Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Digital and Creative Economy, Fegho Umunubo, the actor Wale Ojo, Uche Nwuka of the Bank of Industry, Special Assistant to the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Mariam Ajaga; the filmmaker Femi Adebayo and the Public Affairs Specialist of the US Embassy in Lagos, Julie McKay. At the unveiling ceremony, executives of the platform namely Kene Okwuosa, CEO; Chinaza Onuzo, CEO; Ladun Awobokun, Head, Content Acquisition; Damola Ademola, Head, Product; Mojisola Oladapo, Head, PR and Marketing and Zulu Oyibo, Head, Content Development, stated variously that Kava was born from a shared mission: to amplify African storytelling and create a permanent, global home for content that reflects the culture, identity, and lived experiences of its people.

As demand for authentic African content continues to rise, especially among diaspora audiences, KAVA was born” For notable writer, director and producer, Chinaza Onuzo, KAVA will offer more than entertainment. “By combining cutting-edge technology with a powerful purpose, it offers more than entertainment—it offers recognition, connection, and a platform where African stories are seen, celebrated, and preserved,” Onuzo said. Launching with over 30 premium Nollywood titles, in partnership with creators across Nigeria and the diaspora, including exclusive post-theatrical releases, and a handpicked selection of Nigeria’s most iconic and compelling stories. Guest speakers at the launch commended Filmone and Inkblot for their vision and commitment to promoting African cinema worldwide. DG of the NFVCB, Husseini, urged total support for the platform declaring that the NFVCB was proud to support the initiative which aims at elevating the industry and sharing Nigeria’s unique perspective with the world.
All Set For Kaduna International Film Festival
THE Executive Director of the Kaduna International Film Festival (KADIFF), Audu Kashim Israel, has said the eight edition of the yearly event will focus on leveraging cinema as a catalyst for social transformation. Israel made the announcement at a World Press Conference in Kaduna, where he restated that the festival would still hold as from August 26 to 30 and under the theme of “Film for Social Change.” The Executive Director noted that KADIFF has grown into a reputable platform over the years, promoting African narratives, nurturing emerging talents, and addressing pressing societal issues through visual storytelling. “The 2025 edition will feature over 150 film screenings, alongside panel discussions, masterclasses, workshops, and tributes to Nollywood pioneers. A special spotlight will be placed on youth and gender empowerment, as well as film-in-education programmes targeted at schools and young audiences,” he said. Israel expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State government for its ongoing support of the creative sector and also acknowledged the role of local and international partners in sustaining the festival’s growth over the past eight years. Israel revealed that about 168 films selected by a nine-member jury, representing entries from Nigeria, Kenya, Finland, Russia, France, USA, India, Tunisia, Zambia, Cameroon, and Ghana would feature at this year’s edition. CALL for submissions for the Naija AI Film festival is still open. The call deadline is August 8. Championed by Obinna Okerekeocha, a notable Nollywood filmmaker, the festival aims to champion the next frontier of cinematic innovation by fostering ethical AI use and celebrating daring AI filmmakers. Scheduled for September 2025 in Lagos, NAIFF will explore the intersection of technology and storytelling, offering a groundbreaking platform for Nollywood and African cinema to embrace artificial intelligence (AI).
