Comedian Totorino emerges Togo’s leading comedy stars

A Togolese comedian, Agodzro Komla Samuel, popularly known as Majorito Totorino, has emerged as one of Togo’s leading comedy stars.

He made this significant strides in the world of Togolese comedy since he began his career on May 5, 2010.

Born in Kpalimé and raised in Tsévié, Togo, Totorino started with a performance at a local convention and has transformed him into a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.

“I often skipped school to attend shows, and I knew I wanted to be a comedian,” he recalled.

As a self-taught comedian, his natural talent quickly captured the hearts of audiences, leading to appearances in various films and television shows that solidified his professional status.

Totorino draws inspiration from renowned comedians such as the late Folo and Tranquilin from Benin, but he has a special admiration for Nigerian comic sensation Sabinus.

“Sabinus is my true idol. I admire how he connects with his audience through everyday life,” Majorito stated.

His performances resonate with audiences as he blends formal film productions with spontaneous web videos, often released immediately after shooting. “I love creating content that reflects the reality of our lives, it makes my humor relatable,” he added.

However, Totorino journey has not been without challenges. He acknowledges that negative feedback serves as motivation for improvement.

“I take criticism seriously; it’s a tool for growth. Every comment, good or bad, pushes me to do better,” he stated.

He recalled the milestone in his career when he was nominated for the 2024 Kora Awards, where he finished among the top two contenders.

“It was an honor to be recognized among such talented individuals. It gives me the drive to continue pushing my craft,” he expressed.

Despite his rising fame, Majorito is candid about the dichotomy between his social media persona and real life.

“Not everything I post reflects my reality, sometimes, I curate my content to enhance my image and attract professional opportunities. In this industry, you sometimes have to sell a version of yourself to get ahead. It’s a balance I’m learning to navigate,” the comedian said.

He also noted that his goal is to connect with people through laughter.

His journey reflects the resilience and adaptability of young comedians in Togo, carving out their niche in a competitive entertainment landscape. With an ever-growing fan base, Majorito’s unique blend of humor and authenticity promises to entertain and inspire for years to come.
