After several months of hard work, the 15-year old autistic visual artist, Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, is set to unveil his giant canvas to the world.

The President, Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), Muhammad Sulaiman, who addressed the media last weekend, said the Guinness World record attempt, measuring about 12, 303 square meters, would be exhibited at the Eagle Square, Abuja on April 2, to allow audience an opportunity to experience the monumental artwork in its full scale.

Titled, Impossible Is A Myth, the NSA President noted that beyond the exhibition of the work, there are plans for national and international tour as well as educational and advocacy programmes designed to foster greater awareness of autism, inclusion and the transformative power of the arts.

Commending the Guinness World Records and Kanye’s dedicated support team, sponsors, partners and Nigerian creative communities for championing artistic voices, Sulaiman described the successful completion of the canvas as “historic and inspiring milestone.”

It is not new that the artist, popularly known as Kanye has impressed the world with his art, which he has gladly engaged as his fluent means of communicating freely with the world, the size of the current project, however, is astounding, pointing to greater exploits the young Nigerian is poised to do in future through the instrumentality of the art.

Popularly addressed as Kanye, the journey towards the record began in November last year at General Azazi Barracks’ Gwagwalada Ground, where the first stroke of the brush was done before continuing in his school — JC Best Schools, with the inspiring display of creativity, determination and zeal to overcome challenges.

He has, in the last few months, been preparing to create what may become the world’s largest canvas ever produced by an artist, especially considering his age and the fact that he is living with autism. The current record, held by Emad Salehi, stands at 9652 square meters.

Since he was diagnosed with autism at an early age, Kanye has engaged visual art as a means of communication and exploration. His works explore themes of colors, emotion, otherworldly imagination and the connections between one’s inner humanity and the environment.

This record-breaking canvas will, no doubt, prove that artistic ability knows no boundaries, regardless of age, background or neurodiversity as it reflects his unique perspective, artistic talent and unwavering passion for self-expression.

“This extraordinary achievement is more than just a record-breaking work of art. It is a bold declaration that impossible is indeed a myth, and a confirmation to the limitless potential that lies within each individual, regardless of their circumstances or perceived limitations,” said Sulaiman.

By attempting the new Guinness World Record for the Largest Painting, Sulaiman said Kanye has not only redefined creative boundaries but has also shattered stereotypes associated with neurodiversity.

“His journey started as a young child discovering colour as a language of expression to an internationally recognised artist whose works reflect the boundless power of creativity as a tool for communication, advocacy and transformation.”

According to him, the artwork represents a visual symphony of emotions, experiences, and reflections.

“Rendered in Kanyeyachukwu’s signature abstract expressionist style, the painting invites viewers into the vivid landscape of his mind, a world where colour, lines and form converge to narrate the story of personal triumph over life’s challenges. Every brushstroke speaks to resilience; every colour shift echoes the struggle for identity, understanding and belonging.

“What makes this achievement even more profound is that it challenges both artistic convention and societal expectations, demonstrating that art is a space for all and that neurodivergent individuals, when given the opportunity and support, can contribute meaningfully to global culture and discourse.

“The road to this record was paved with determination, creativity and unwavering support from Kanyeyachukwu’s family, creative mentors and technical collaborators. Over 12 weeks of meticulous work, countless litres of acrylic paint and innovative approaches to handling a canvas of unprecedented scale, Kanye remained focused, resolute and inspired.

“His passion drove every step, culminating in this globally significant achievement, which will officially be verified by Guinness World Records adjudicators.”

Also speaking, Matlou Tsetetsi of Zeeba Foundation – one of Kanye’s partners, called on parents with autistic children to emulate Tagbo-Okeke’s family by supporting such children to realise their dreams in life.

“They gave all the supports available. There are oganisations that help such children. So, parents with autistic children should not assume there is no help available. We can guide them in reaching out and getting the help they need,”she said.

In his remarks, Kanye’s father, Mr. Tagbo Okeke, while expressing gratitude to everyone that has supported in making his son’s dream come true, urged parents of autistic children not to lose hope but continue to support them in acquiring skills and formal education.
