Asegun vows to lift trophy in S. Africa

WITH everything already in place coupled with the solid shape-up the team had before departing on Wednesday, Asegun Comprehensive High School, Ibadan, has vowed to lift the trophy at the maiden Nestle Milo U-13 African Soccer Championship holding in South Africa.

Five teams from the continent will take part in the championship – Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya and South Africa. Speaking during the reception organised for the team in Lagos, Nestle’s Category Manager, Beverages, Walter Okafor, charged the team to do the nation proud, having been exposed to the best training during its build-up for the championship.

“Having gone through several training (programmes) in the last two weeks and meeting some of the best players that have worn the colours of the country, I believe we can rely on you to do us proud in South Africa,” he said.

“We charge you as good ambassadors to ensure that we also celebrate you when you bring back the Cup to Nigeria.”

The handler of the team, Morufu Aremu, is optimistic that his lads would not disappoint in South Africa. However, he urged the country to pray for their success. The team will rely on the scoring prowess of Morufu Toheeb and Fasanya Hamed as well as that of the inspiring skipper Saburi Olanase.

During the build-up, the Saburi Olanase-captained side overwhelmed Ogun State-based Duchmond Football Academy 2-0 in the match played at the International Sports Academy, Wasimi. They also drew 4-4 against New Generation Youth Academy at Campos Square Mini Stadium in Lagos.
