ASUP Honours Shekarau With Distinction Award

IN appreciation of what the former Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, did while in office, the national leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), honoured him with Distinction in Recognition of Service to Humanity and the Nation award at his residence in Kano.

In his speech the President of ASUP, Dr. Chibuzo Asomugha, said: “We are celebrating hard work and integrity.  During your tenure we noticed remarkable and impactful achievements.”

The group said it was during his tenure that many Polytechnics were licensed.

According to him, when Shekarau was in office he listened to them as a union and showed them the way forward. “There wasn’t any matter we brought to him that he did not solve.

Asomugha used the forum to call on government to see to the lingering problem of discrimination between graduates of polytechnics and those from universities.

“You will find that our students from Polytechnics are trained sometimes alongside with university students with our facilities, same classrooms, teachers and laboratories, but when they are to be issued result their results will read so and so university.
