At club induction, Martins urges Christians to seek God’s guidance in daily life

The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, His Grace, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, has enjoined Christians to always seek God’s guidance in their undertakings and daily life. He gave the charge while delivering the homily during the formal induction and charter ceremony of threenew Clubs of Serra International, District 130-B in Iju, Ogba and Ojota at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos. Speaking on the new clubs, the Archbishop of Lagos noted that activities carried out in the Church falls under three categories namely prayer, care of the poor and evangelism.


The cleric commended the clubs for fostering vocations to the priesthood and supporting those who have answered the call to serve God and the church.

He said their dedication to nurturing vocations and building a vibrant community of faith exemplifies the spirit of selflessness and compassion that lies at the heart of Christian mission.

Martins explained that they are celebrating not only the expansion of the club, but also the deepening of its impact on the lives of individuals and communities.


District Governor, Serra International, District 130-B, Serran Pius Tanimojo, said the chartering of the new clubs is a testament to the dedication, enthusiasm and commitment of the founding members. He added that it is a reflection of their passion for leadership, personal development and service to the Serra Apostolate.

The DG commended the charter members for their unwavering determination and embodying the core values of Serra International, saying that by embarking on this venture, they have demonstrated their willingness to embrace new opportunities for growth and self-employment.

Tanimojo stated that the chartering will encourage other clubs in formation to strive hard to get to this level.

President, Serra club of Ojota, one of the newly inducted clubs, Serran Birgitta Agene, said the club is a beacon of hope and service to the church and they’re determined to continue striving for excellence in all endeavours.


Agene said with induction, her club has joined 450 other serra clubs around the world and will be able to attend international conferences.

The president stated that the club under her leadership is set to introduce many initiatives such as vocational rally to guide young people towards their calling.

She also disclosed plans to sponsor seminarians and hold charity outreaches to aid orphanages and others.

Agene also said they intend to occasionally hold dinner for priests in their community to appreciate them, show love and concern.

She charged her fellow inductees and sister clubs of Ogba and Uju, as they embark on this new journey together, to always reflect on the mission that unites them. She reminded members to remember the motto of their patron saint and ‘always look forward, never going back’.

“Our commitment to this mission is an attestation to the values that guide our clubs and the profound impact we aim to have on the lives of those we serve,” Agene said.
