With the increase in value for personal development, motivational experts have emphasised the crucial role of self-awareness and mindset in achieving individual growth.
They stressed that understanding oneself and cultivating a positive mindset are foundational pillars for success in various aspects of life.
The experts in Lagos at a one-day seminar, titled ‘Recode’ with the theme ‘Reinventing yourself for a wholesome life’ at the weekend charged youths to reinvent themselves for future opportunities by shaping their minds for productivity and growth.
Founder of Live your Dreams Africa and host, Bankole Williams, described Recode as an initiative aimed at empowering individuals, particularly young people, to acknowledge the changing world and to adapt by acquiring essential skills.
He emphasized that developing these skills would not only bring stability to one’s personal life but also positively impact the external world.
“The youths have to be resilient, be tough, take on difficulty but also be able to rise above difficulty, must have self-regulation, with everything that is happening in the outer world, you don’t want your inner world to be influenced, ability to go through crisis but not allowing the crisis to go on inside of you, it’s a powerful skill and I believe that it’s necessary for the times we find ourselves in,” he said.
One of the facilitators, Dr. Tochukwu MacFoy, expressed concern that many youths are operating with cognitive capacities below their potential, attributing this to a lack of belief, consciousness, imagination, and unresolved trauma, which he believes have negatively impacted the youth.
“This is a conversation where we recalibrate our minds and bring it back to proper consciousness.
“Youths are the ones to change the country, the state, the outlook so if you can change how they think, you can change the country,” he said.
A lawyer at Pathfinders Justice Initiative, Rantiade Benson-Idahosa, urged young people to grasp their identity and true selves, highlighting that it reflects the magnificence, brilliance, and beauty of God.
Her words: “When you start to change your mindset that you are love, peace, hope, people walk in your presence and encounter God, the way you move the world, the way you show up changes, it’s not a sense of arrogant but a sense of experiential knowledge meaning you have conscious contact with the Almighty.
“If we can all get to that space of collective consciousness there will be huge difference in the world.”
