Atiku describes late Tor Tiv as epitome of peace, unity

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has described the late Tor Tiv, Dr Alfred Akawe Tirkula as an `epitome of peace and unity.’

A statement released on Friday in Abuja, stated that Atiku condoled with the royal family, the Tiv nation, the people and government of Benue state over the demise of their `illustrious monarch.’

According to the statement, Atiku was represented by John Chaihemen, the managing Director of Gotel Communication.

The statement also quoted Mr Fred Sanda, Gotel’s Manager for Community Outreach as saying that as the holder of the highest traditional title in Tivland, Atiku mourned the death of the monarch as the Tiv people.

“Atiku is a holder of the highest traditional title in Tivland ` the Zegemule uTiv of Tivland.

“It is in view of his (Atiku’s) exalted status among the Tiv and people of Benue in general that we felt we should pay you this condolence visit,’’ Sanda said.

The statement said the president of Tiv Association of Yola, Mr Tekimbi Tyona, also offered his condolence on behalf of the association.

He said that office of the Tor Tiv was important for peace and harmony not only in Benue state, but in neighbouring states such as Nasarawa and Taraba, where Tiv formed a significant part of the population.
