AWAL taps Excel Joab to head talent development in West Africa

As more global music companies expand to West Africa, foremost global music recording company, AWAL, has launched its West African debut with the selection of Excel Joab as the Senior Manager of A&R and Artist Development for the region.


In this crucial position, Excel takes the lead in discovering and nurturing outstanding talent, reinforcing AWAL’s commitment to cultivating trailblazing artists.

Leveraging his extensive experience in the entertainment sector, Excel, who was Boomplay’s Content Acquisition Manager, is set to steer AWAL’s A&R and Artist Development initiatives.

Founded in 2007, AWAL (originally, Artistes Without A Label) exists as a global recording music company offering distribution and other services to artistes and independent labels. It was acquired by Sony Music Entertainment, in 2021, and has gone on to represent some of the biggest names in music including Little Simz, Tom Misch, Nick Cave, among others.
