Bach calls for inclusiveness as Nigeria joins Olympic Day celebration

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Thomas Bach, has enjoined all member nations to take advantage of the Olympic family principle and ensure that the world enjoys an unforgettable celebration of sports achievements at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Speaking at the Olympic Day celebration in Lagos, at the weekend, Bach, whose message was read by Nigeria’s former Olympics captain, Olumide Oyedeji, who represented Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) President, Habu Gumel, described this year’s event as a ‘Special One’ as it coincides with the 2024 Olympic Games year in Paris. He added that Paris 2024 offers athletes the platform to inspire the world with the Olympic motto of togetherness.

This year’s Olympic Day celebration in Nigeria was held across the country with such activities
as jogging, aerobic exercise and lectures on healthy living.

Despite the early morning rain that threatened the day’s activities in Lagos, hundreds of people
trooped out to join the celebration.

Among dignitaries at the event were Olympics gold medallist, Chioma Ajunwa-Opara, NOC’s fourth Vice President, Mrs. Olabisi Joseph, and the Director of Sports (Lagos Laison office), Federal Ministry of Sports Development, Mrs Nkana Mbora.
