SUPER Eagles’ first choice goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, will not play any part in Nigeria’s international friendly match against South Africa on Sunday because of a back injury he copped during Wednesday’s game against Uganda.

Enyeama, who celebrated his 100th cap for Nigeria on Wednesday, hurt his back while trying to save Miya Faruku’s shot that eventually gave the Cranes a 1-0 win in Uyo.

Officials of the team told The Guardian yesterday that the Eagles’ captain would return to France for treatment last night, adding that officials of his club, Lille, had been notified of the minor injury to the former Enyimba star.

Enyeama on Wednesday became the second Nigerian men’s footballer, after Joseph Yobo, to reach the magic 100-mark of appearances.

Even though his celebrations were dampened by the country’s 0-1 loss to Uganda, the Lille of France star said he felt fulfilled having come thus far with the Super Eagles.

Speaking after the game in Uyo, Enyeama thanked Nigerians both at home and in the Diaspora for his feat, saying the loss was just one of those things that happen when a new team is being put together.

“It is a team with new players; it is going to take time for us to blend. I didn’t even know the names of some of the players and I was forced shout to communicate with them.

“Playing for 13 years in these colours has not been easy.

There have been ups and downs throughout all this time. I have to stop at some point. Hundred in the bag, I am going to sit with the coaches and sort things out,” Enyeama said.
