Bandits kidnap students, others in Sokoto

Armed gunmen

Bandits have gone on the rampage again after reportedly kidnapping an unspecified number of Tsangaya students in Sokoto state on Saturday.

The latest incident occurred at Gidan Bakuso in the Gada local government area of Sokoto state.

The proprietor of the school, Liman Abubakar, informed Daily Trust that the students were abducted from their school around 1:00 am on Saturday.

“We are still counting the number of our students missing but 15 of them are unaccounted for so far,” Abubakar said.

He added that the bandits upon invading the town in the middle of the night shot one person while they also kidnapped a woman.

The proprietor said as the bandits were leaving the town, they sighted the students rushing into their rooms and kidnapped some of them.

According to Abubakar, this is not the first time that bandits would be attacking Gidan Bakuso village.

There has been an increase in banditry across Nigeria in recent times with kidnappings taking place in two other states.

The Northern states of Borno and Kaduna were recently attacked by bandits who abducted residents and displaced many.
