Bauchi Police arrest 21-year-old for illegal possession of firearm

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested one Umar Abubakar for illegal possession of a pistol at Narbodo village in Toro local council of the State.


The Command in a statement by its Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil, said the suspect acquired a locally made pistol from his friend, one Mohammed of Nasarawa State at the cost of N25, 000 with three live 7.62mm ammunition.

“The suspect also confessed to having purchased the firearm two years ago, and he fired one piece of ammunition while chasing cattle rustlers in Mangu local council of Plateau State,” the PRO said.

Wakil added that the suspect confessed to have handed over the gun to a friend to sell as the firearm was of no use to him before he was arrested. He said that Abubakar and his friend were charged for criminal conspiracy and concealment of an illegal firearm connected to the case.

Also, the Command said that seven Sara-Suka (political thugs) who were allegedly terrorising several areas of the metropolis were arrested.

According to him: “The restive youths known as Yan Sara Suka came out in their numbers from different wards of Bauchi metro, which include; Unguwar Kur, Bakaro, Karofi, Yakubu Wanka, Kwanar Kwaila, and Unguwar Doya respectively, converged and invaded Kobi Street Bauchi, armed with dangerous weapons unleashing terror on innocent citizens and looting shops.

The suspects are: Sani Mohammed, 27, of Unguwar Kur, Suleiman Mohammed, 19, Imrana Abbas, 19, of Dutsen Tanshi, Ibrahim Muhammed, 18, Hassan Alhassan,18, Babangida Salisu, 20, all of Anguwar Kur and Dutsen Tanshi respectively.

Items recovered includes; four handset phones, N17, 000. Exhibits recovered from the suspects are: two matches, three knives,” he said.

Police said that effort has been intensified to arrest other fleeing accomplices.
