Buachi State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Jamila Dahiru

The Bauchi State government has said that the sum of N396,963,000 has been approved to settle the payment of external examinations for 14,170 students in public schools.

Speaking with the journalists in her office, the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Jamila Dahiru said that the payment is an annual exercise to ease the burden on the parents and an encouragement to the brightest students.

Dahiru said that the state had conducted a qualifying mock examination for students in public schools that would sit for the West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO), Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and National Board Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Jamila said that the government had offset debt incurred by the past administrations, totalling N800m and has consistently paid for the external exams yearly.

She said that the payment has been yielding the desired result “because we have recorded 10 percent improvement in the output of our results last year.”
