Sanwo-Olu to see off Lagos pilgrims

National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has cautioned intending pilgrims to be wary of criminal characters intending to use unsuspecting pilgrims to transport illicit substances to Saudi Arabia.

In Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will, on Thursday, bid farewell to intending pilgrims to the holy land. National Commissioner, North West, NAHCON, Sheikh Mohammad Bin Othman, advised at a stakeholders’ meeting and inauguration of Operation Committee for 2024 Hajj in Kano, yesterday.

The Islamic scholar reminded the Kano contingent of previous ugly incidences that almost tarnished the country’s image, insisting that on no condition should intending pilgrims accept to transport bags or parcels to anyone in Saudi Arabia.

Othman’s admonition came after a non-governmental organisation Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR) called for coordinated security surveillance at Hajj camps across the country.

Earlier, the Director General, Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Lamin Danbappa, stressed that Kano had secured a 100 per cent visa and prepared to commence airlift on May 24, 2024.

SECRETARY of Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Saheed Onipede, disclosed in a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit, yesterday, that the governor, his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, and other government functionaries would be at the seminar organised by the board.

According to the statement, the seminar with the theme, ‘Achieving a Blissful, Rewarding and Acceptable Hajj Experience’, will take place at De-Blue Roof, Lagos Television (LTV) ground, Agidingbi, Ikeja, on May 16, 2024. It is designed to further broaden the knowledge of the intending pilgrims on the requirements of Hajj rituals and educate them on the dos and don’ts concerning international travel. The pilgrims are expected to be airlifted on May 17.
