Boastful Warri Wolves’ opponents arrive from Congo DR

warri-wolvesNIGERIA’S only surviving team in this year’s CAF competitions, Warri Wolves FC, may have to brace up if they hope to secure a ticket to the next round of their CAF Confederation Cup this weekend.

This is because their opponent from Congo DR, MK Etancheite FC, arrived the country yesterday, five whole days ahead of their match, boasting that they would do everything possible to cage Wolves at the Warri City Stadium on Saturday. It is the first leg of their second round match.

The 27-man team of MK Etancheite FC arrived Warri yesterday afternoon aboard Arik Airline, beaming with smiles.

The team, which landed at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, at 11.00 a.m, was received by officials of Warri Wolves, who airlifted them immediately to Warri where they hope to spend five days before the cracker.

It was learnt that a mild drama occurred at the Murtala Mohammed airport in Lagos, as officials of Warri Wolves refused to cater for two members of the visiting team.

An official of Wolves told The Guardian that CAF rules clearly stipulate that the host team should only cater for 25 members. “But the issue has been resolved amicably,” the official said.

Among the players in the visiting Congolese team that Warri Wolves need to curtain on Saturday are captain Kabangu, Losiyo Bofumbo, Mombo Lusala and Kabangu Ndima.

Warri Wolves’ attacker, Gbolahan Salami, whose birthday comes up today, has urged his teammates to brace up for the challenges and give him a befitting birthday gift by beating the visiting Congolese on Saturday.

“Wednesday (today) is my birthday and I want my teammates to brace up for the game and use the victory as a gift. I will cherish it if we win by a wide margin,” Salami said yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Match Commissioner from Ghana and Match Officials from Sychelles will arrive Warri on Friday.
