Veteran journalist and co-founder of Newswatch magazine, Mr Dan Agbese, has died.

The Guardian learnt that he passed away on Monday morning in Lagos at the age of 81.

Agbese was widely regarded as one of the figures who helped shape modern journalism in Nigeria, especially through his work in investigative reporting and magazine style storytelling.
