PENGASSAN agrees to suspend strike, resolves rift with Dangote Refinery

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) is expected to suspend its nationwide strike this morning, following a truce brokered by the Federal Government.

The resolution came after the government upheld workers’ rights to freely associate and belong to a union of their choice.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, in a statement, said the parties agreed that workers recently disengaged by the Dangote Group would be redeployed to other subsidiaries within the conglomerate without loss of pay.

It was also resolved that no employee would be victimised for their role in the dispute between PENGASSAN and the Dangote Refinery management.

PENGASSAN has agreed to begin the process of calling off the strike, with both sides committing to the agreement in good faith. The union is scheduled to brief the media later today, where the formal suspension of the strike is expected to be announced.
