Kaduna International Film Festival Holds In August
THE Kaduna International Film Festival (KIFF) will hold between August 27 and 31 in Kaduna, the founder of the annual festival Audu Israel has asserted. Audu disclosed that the festival will continue in spite of the near lack of sponsorship because it has become a critical tool in changing the narrative of the northern part of the country as a region grappling with insecurity. Audu, also the Vice-Chairman of Nigeria Film Festivals Association (NFFA), said during a courtesy visit to the Director General of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri, disclosed that that the northern part of the country was blessed with natural and human resources. He said that the festival would be highlighting and showcasing the rich culture of the region and its creative industry during the three-day long festival. He further stated that the forthcoming KIFF festival would hold in August and would include activities such as master classes to develop skills of creativity, panel sessions, seminars, film screening, exhibitions and award ceremony.

According to him, the creative industry in the northern part of the country was lacking the requisite exposure to grow in spite its many talents and potential. He expressed confidence that the annual KIFF would help in addressing the situation. Responding, NIDCOM DG commended the KIFF organizers for their determination to use the festival in changing the trajectory of the northern part of the country. Dabiri noted that the creative industry is the forte of youths worldwide and that the creative industry particularly film had been used by countries such as India to change the trajectory of their nations. ‘We have deployed film for that purpose too but we need to do much more to promote our values and culture using the film medium. Dabiri commended the organisers for their consistency and she assured that she will use the platform of NIDCOM to help in publicizing the festival so that filmmakers in the diaspora can be attracted to not only submit their films, but to attend. The festival opens from August 27 and will close on August 31.
