Ese Brume

Nigeria’s Ese Brume won the gold medal in the long jump event at the 2024 African Athletics Championship in Douala, Cameroon.

Brume is now a four-time long jump champion and has remained undefeated in Africa for eight years.

The 28-year-old Nigerian long jump star was in second place behind Burkina Faso’s Marthe Koala who was leading with 6.72m after five attempts.

Brume had to dig deep into her wealth of experience, landing a final round jump of 6.73m to land the gold medal.

Her Nigerian compatriot Prestina Ochonogor was also in action in the long jump final and finished fourth with 6.28m.

In the women’s high jump final event, Temitope Adeshina picked up the silver medal.

Rose Yeboah of Ghana won the gold medal with a best effort of 1.87m, repeating their placements the last time they met at the NCAA Championships.

Brume won her first African Athletics Championship title in 2014 in Marrakech, Morocco.

She won the title in 2016 in Durban South Africa and in 2018 in Asaba, Delta State, she was crowned champion again.
