Buhari appoints security adviser on Interpol

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed retiring Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Garba Baba Umar, as Senior Security Adviser on International Police Cooperation and Counter-terrorism in the office of Minister of Police Affairs.

He said the decision was for the nation to sustain its envious position and allow the senior police officer to complete his tenure as executive member of the International Police Organisation (INTERPOL).

The President observed that Umar, as council member, assisted Nigeria in many ways, with the hope that in the remaining one year, he would do more in securing equipment for crimes, border management and counter-terrorism.

Umar’s tenure at the INTERPOL ends in November 2024, while his new appointment takes effect from May 16, 2023.
