Buhari is backsliding

SIR: I was one among the people that got tired of the administration of the former President Goodluck Jonathan and thereafter, I have advocated for the alteration of his leadership and strongly supported the change campaign that brought General Muhammadu Buhari in as the President of this great nation, Nigeria.

However, despite my support for President Buhari, I still have to criticise him when he begins to take steps that are questionable. President Buhari’s position on the recent House of Representatives’ crisis, which seems settled is what necessitated this writing. At the President’s first meeting with the aggrieved members of the House, he advised the house members to operate according to the rules of the House.

I was very happy after President Buhari’s intervention to resolve the crisis in question and I applauded him for that. Thereafter, a national leader of the party who wants things to be done in his own way not minding the harm it could cause the citizenry, did not agree with Buhari’s stand on working with the House rules. He and his group instigated the crisis in the first place to enable him control the leadership of the House.

But then, I am not happy with President Buhari for not standing firm on his decision of respecting the rules of the House, which represent the wishes of Nigerians.

Buhari, in his last meeting with the members, House of Representatives, to resolve the crisis in the House told the members to consider the party’s decision. Why? Is it party that wants Gbajabiamila to be the House Leader or the leader in question? Is it party’s decision that should be considered or the House that represents the desires of Nigerians?

That party chieftain and his group should know that Nigerians are aware of their selfish interest of their plan of hijacking the leadership of the National Assembly. Nigerians are watching their steps and won’t allow them to execute their plan. The interest of Nigerians should be placed above any other interest.
