Buni declares today public holiday to honour, offer prayers for late ex-gov

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has declared today as a work-free day to mark the three-day prayers for the late ex-Governor, Bukar Ibrahim. According to him, the 73-year-old late Ibrahim died from a protracted illness on Sunday at a Saudi Arabian hospital.

The Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor Mamman Mohammed, disclosed this, yesterday, in Damaturu, saying that the public holiday is to enable citizens of the state to offer prayers for the late former governor, who served the state for over two decades.

He also explained that Buni, in the company of top government officials and the family of the late ex-governor, has been receiving condolences from sympathizers from within and outside the state at the Government House, Damaturu.

MEANWHILE, Northern senators, under the banner of Northern Senators Forum, have described the death of Ibrahim as an immense loss to the nation.
In a condolence message signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Abdul Ahmed Ningi, the senators said they received news of the demise of the former governor with deep sadness.

In a statement made available to The Guardian, the senators said Bukar was a revered political leader, and a dedicated representative of the Nigerian people.
