Buni lifts ban on private motorcycles in Yobe south, north districts

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has lifted the ban on motorcycles in two senatorial districts of the state.
  
According to him, the lift of ban in Yobe South and North senatorial districts, affects 10 councils of Fika, Fune, Nangere, Potiskum; and Bade, Machina, Nguru, Jakusko, Karasuwa and Yusufari respectively.
  
Special Adviser on Security Affairs to the Governor, Brig-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), who disclosed this yesterday in Damaturu, said the governor has approved the lifting of ban on riding of motorcycles in the 10 Local Councils.
  
Motorcycle operators, he said, are to ply their respective councils between 6:00a.m. and 6:00p.m. daily.       
  


He warned that motorcycles are not to be operated for commercial purposes.
   
He said: “There will be no carrying of passengers on motorbikes. Only riders will be allowed to ply their councils.
  
“There should be proper registration, licensing, and documentation of all motorcycles and their owners by Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency (YOROTA).”
 
According to him, any motorbike rider that conveys passengers would be sanctioned in accordance with extant rules and regulations of the agency.
  
He urged security agencies to monitor movement of motorcyclists and ensure strict compliance to traffic rules and regulations.
