Ijebu Development Initiative wins FAO recognition for advancing food security

The Ijebu Development Initiative on Poverty Reduction (IDIPR) in Ogun State has been selected by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations for Technical Recognition in Sustainable Aquatic Food Systems.

The award will be presented at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, during the Organisation’s 80th Anniversary Celebration and the 2025 World Food Forum.

The recognition highlights IDIPR’s impact in advancing sustainable aquaculture, promoting food security, and reducing poverty through inclusive, locally driven initiatives.

According to the FAO, IDIPR’s success demonstrates how grassroots partnerships can transform agrifood systems and contribute meaningfully to global development goals.

The recognition celebrates IDIPR’s commitment to community empowerment and sustainable practices that have strengthened livelihoods across Ijebu communities. It reflects the collective effort that has sustained the Initiative’s growth over the years.

The ceremony will be streamed live online. This milestone reaffirms Ogun State’s position as a model for sustainable agricultural development and innovation in Africa.
