The apex Igbo youth socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has applauded Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for unveiling Enugu Air, describing the initiative as a bold step toward unlocking economic opportunities for the South-East.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the National President of the group, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, said the launch of Enugu Air represents a new era of innovation and transformational governance under the Mbah administration.
Okwu noted that the airline project reflects the prudent economic management of the state by Governor Mbah and marks a historic milestone, being the first of its kind in the South-East and only the second state-owned airline in Nigeria, after Akwa Ibom.
“This is a landmark achievement that speaks volumes. It is a bold economic move that should be commended by all well-meaning individuals across the South-East and Nigeria,” he said.
He further lauded the administration for creating youth-centred opportunities, revealing that one of the airline’s pilots is a youth from Enugu State.
“This is another indication that Enugu Air will create jobs for young people, enhance the state’s economy, and catalyse prosperity throughout the region,” Okwu added.
Calling for unity and support across political lines, Okwu urged all residents of Enugu State to rally behind the Mbah-led administration.
“He is demonstrating true governance. It is time for everyone, regardless of political affiliation, to fully support this government,” he stated.
Okwu also expressed optimism that Enugu Air would soon obtain its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to operate independently.
“We are glad that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has already granted approval for the commencement of domestic flight operations, barely 24 hours after the launch,” he said.
He noted that while Enugu Air will begin operations in partnership with XEJET, the airline is expected to secure its full certification soon, solidifying its position as a major player in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
