The International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION) has announced the launch of a high-level executive course aimed at strengthening sustainable blue economy practices within Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Scheduled to take place from May 22 to 23 in Lagos, the course, titled ‘Sustainability for the Blue Economy’, is designed to equip professionals from both government and private sectors with the skills and knowledge necessary to influence policy formulation and develop effective implementation strategies.
Speaking on the initiative, the Director General of IMION, Rear Admiral Thaddeus Udofia (rtd), emphasised the critical importance of the course in enhancing institutional competence in blue economy sustainability and maritime security.
“This course is tailored for C-suite executives and professionals in roles that shape or implement policy. Participants will gain insights into global and regional sustainability frameworks, marine resource management, and coastal community engagement, along with hands-on sessions for applied learning,” Udofia stated.
He added that IMION’s mission centres on advancing research, policy advocacy, and stakeholder engagement in the maritime industry, with a strong focus on knowledge generation and capacity building.
Udofia said to optimise the nation’s Blue Economy resources, the institute provides top-tier training that meets international standards, delivered by globally recognised subject-matter experts.
He added that by bridging knowledge gaps and fostering collaboration, the course will contribute significantly to Nigeria’s drive toward a resilient, inclusive and sustainable maritime future.
