Over 10 million users of Twitter have voted in support of Elon Musk stepping down as the Chief Executive Officer of the American firm, in a poll conducted by Musk, where he asked if he should step down as the CEO of the micro blogging platform.

In the Twitter poll, which started on Sunday, Musk asked: “Should I step down as head of Twitter? He added the options of ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ for people to vote.

The results by Monday afternoon when the poll ended, showed that 17.5 million users had voted with 57.5 per cent, representing over 10 million users voting ‘Yes’, while 42.5 per cent were against the idea of Musk stepping down.

Voters are however, awaiting Musk to take a decision on the outcome of the conducted poll.

The poll followed online backlash after Musk made sudden changes to policies impacting users of Twitter in the last week. The company, for instance, introduced a new social media platform promotion policy on Sunday, which prohibited users from sharing links to some of their other social media accounts. Twitter, however, later deleted the clause from its policy after criticisms.

Last week, Musk said the platform would soon delete a total of 1.5 billion accounts that have become dormant. According to him, this will help to free the space being occupied by those accounts on Twitter.

Musk said most of the accounts may have been deleted by the owners, as there have been no tweets or login activities on them for years.

“Twitter will soon start freeing the namespace of 1.5 billion accounts. These are obvious account deletions with no tweets and no log-in for years,” Musk Tweeted.
