The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Olatunji Disu, has revealed that 140 men of the command were lost to nature and violence in 2024.

The former RRS boss made this statement at an end-of-the-year programme organised by the FCT command of the force to mark the achievements recorded in the year.

The top cop said that clashes between the officers and Shittes account for some of the deaths while others died as a result of high blood pressure in the FCT command in 2024.

Disu said some of his officers died in their sleep and others passed away on active duty.

He said that some members of the deceased officers’ families have received their entitlements and support as directed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

Disu noted that “At the start of 2024, the FCT faced significant security challenges across its six area councils, including banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, car theft, “one-chance” robbery, illegal possession and use of firearms, homicides, and other violent crimes.”

He highlighted the achievements of the FCT police command with 1,426 cases reported, leading to the arrest of 1,077 suspects, 104 cases reported; 216 suspects arrested, 268 cases reported; 132 suspects arrested, 263 once-chance cases reported; 71 suspects arrested.

Disu said the FCT police command would build on ensuring effective community policing backed by a robust intelligence-led gathering system aligned with public enlightenment to ensure optimum security of lives and property in the FCT.
