Insecurity: Rivers LG procures operational vehicles for police, army, others

The Chairman of Gokana Local Government Area in Rivers State, Monday Dumiye, has procured security operational vehicles for the various commands of the security agencies operating in the council to boost security.

Those to benefit from the security vehicles are the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army, and the Federal Road Safety Corps commands in the council.

Presenting the security vehicles to the various agencies as part of his 100 days in office, Dumiye noted that the donation was in keeping with his promise of promoting peaceful coexistence in the council.

He recalled that upon assumption of office as chairman of the council, he embarked on assessing the operational challenges faced by the various security agencies in the area, with a commitment to remedying the situation to sustain peace and ensure the security of lives and property.

The council boss assured that his administration will continue to partner with all stakeholders and security agencies in promoting peace in the council area.

He said: “Today, we are here to officially flag off our first 100 days in office with the inauguration/handover of security vehicles purchased by my administration for use by the police and other security agencies in Gokana,” adding that, “This is just the first step, as my administration shall continue to work closely and robustly with the police and other security agencies towards making Gokana a peaceful place to live, work, and invest.”

The council chairman also disclosed that he had earlier procured an electric transformer for the Octopus Unit in the area to enhance their operations, assuring that he would do more to sustain the peace in the area.

His administration promptly assessed the operational challenges faced by security agencies and took swift action to address them.
Dumiye listed other projects embarked upon in his first one hundred days in office to include the restoration of electricity in Gokana, building and remodeling several schools, provision of solar street lights, and clearing of the backlog of salaries of council workers, among others.

He, however, gave kudos to the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for his support and for giving council chairmen a free hand to perform their duties.

While inaugurating the project, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, who was represented by the Area Commander of Bori Area Command, ACP Issa Ali Kume, expressed delight at the donation and assured that the police would make maximum use of the vehicle to fight crime in the council.

He said: “On behalf of the Command, I therefore express my gratitude to the chairman and entire people of Gokana LGA for this donation. Be assured that the dividends of the confidence you have in the police through this donation will be felt in every nook and cranny of the LGA through effective and relentless police patrol as well as quick and uninterrupted responses to any distress calls using the vehicles.”

CP Adepoju noted that the donation serves to reassure the people of the full backing of the police and other security agencies that have also benefited from the gesture, that their security is the topmost priority to the council chairman and the relevant stakeholders.
