The Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Unification Church of Nigeria, Dr. Solomon Adegboyega Alao, has urged the Federal Government to provide a special security squad at the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in all the 36 states and 774 local councils, including Abuja, to prevent further attack on the electoral body’s facilities.
Alao, who gave the advice, yesterday, at a media briefing to herald the yearly general conference of the church holding in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, said it was obvious that some politicians, who are not happy with the introduction of BVAS and electronic transmission of results are doing everything to stop the 2023 general elections from holding.
He said: “I see no reason the Federal Government has not ordered the security agencies to provide a special squad, consisting of soldiers, mobile policemen and civil defence personnel to secure all the INEC offices in all the local councils, states and Abuja. Nigerians will not take any excuse if any of the INEC office is attacked again. This election must hold.”
The Head of C & S Worldwide also urged Nigerians to seek the face of God for a direction to vote for a credible presidential candidate and shun primordial sentiment, ethnicity or religion and be wary of politicians that will want to induce them with money, saying: “I know some politicians without credibility will offer you money. Take the money because it is public fund, but vote for somebody you are sure will provide good governance. Nigerians should not miss this opportunity to get it right if we don’t want to go the way of the Soviet Unions.”
The cleric, therefore, tasked presidential candidates of the political parties to run issues-based campaigns, noting that leading parties have been distracting Nigerians with attacks on personalities and washing of their dirty linens in the public, which are of no consequence to helping Nigerians to take the right choice.
Alao also expressed concerns that Nigeria is approaching the precipice, while its leaders continue to be indifferent to the precarious situation, acting as if everything is well in the country.
He urged the government to stop keeping Nigerians in suspense about the cause of fuel scarcity and hike in pump prices.
According to him, Nigerians deserve to know if government has removed subsidy and the cause of hike in the prices of petrol and diesel. It is unfortunate that as one of the leading oil-producing countries in the world, Nigeria has no functioning refinery and spending huge foreign exchange on fuel importation.
“This has led to inflation and increase in unemployment rate. The power supply has remained epileptic with factories finding it difficult to operate in Nigeria. Our leaders should know that Nigerians deserve better than this.”
He said the church conference, which begins on Thursday with the theme: “Leadership: Opportunity Leading with Responsibility,” will afford the leaders and members to review their activities in the last one year and chat a way forward, especially on the Moses Orimolade University (MOU), which is nearing completion.
