NFF mum on new Super Eagles coach
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is yet to disclose the identity of the coach expected to lead the Super Eagles to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
Nigeria will host South Africa on June 7 in Uyo and meet Benin Republic three days later in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.It was widely reported that the NFF’s technical committee would meet yesterday to deliberate on the shortlisted coaches for the Super Eagles job, but NFF Media Director, Ademola Olajire, told The Guardian yesterday that he was not aware of the stance of the federation on the issue. Olajire said he was waiting for the federation to meet and decide on the new Eagles’ coach before he could answer questions on the issue.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has directed Benin Republic to host their 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, since it could not provide a suitable stadium for the games.
Specifically, Benin Republic will host their game against Nigeria at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. Benin Republic had proposed the 35,000-capacity Stade de l’Amitie, Cotonou, for the match, but CAF was not convinced that the facility could host a match of that magnitude.
