Caleb School celebrates International Mother Language Day

Caleb Group of Schools and University paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, in commemoration of International Mother Language Day.

Adefisayo commended the school leadership for the initiative, especially in identifying and marking International Mother Language Day. She highlighted the importance of retaining one’s mother tongue, which goes a long way in identifying one’s culture, beliefs and history.

She further acknowledged the effort made in different child-based learning institutions to attain multilingualism. She pointed out that technology has an integral role to play as regards overcoming the challenges hindering multilingualism and mastery of native languages.

She re-emphasised that the integration of technology will aid access to various platforms, which support learning of native languages in a fun based way too willing learners and tutors.

Adefisayo added that everyone has a part to play in making the mother tongue attractive for prospective learners, to prevent it from going extinct as predicted by language experts, which invariably will result in loss of cultural identity.

She enjoined learners to imbibe a healthy habit of speaking their mother tongue consistently and confidently, to preserve the nation’s cultural heritage.
