For years, Canon’s status as a leader in photography has been undisputed. The company has made a giant leap in the industry and continues to improve on its products. It has manufactured a wide range of cameras for everyone — from beginnesr to film enthusiasts, influencers, content creators and professional photographers and videographers — However, its professional offerings have often grabbed the headlines.
On July 9, 2020, Canon unveiled the EOS R6 mirrorless camera, which is aimed at improving the skills of professional users. The word ‘mirrorless’ indicates that the camera does not have a reflex mirror or optical viewfinder like a conventional digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR), but an electronic viewfinder, which displays the image its sensor sees. This new technology is part of the growing trend of compact system cameras that first came into the market in mid-2000s.
The Canon EOS R6 is a general-purpose camera with a 20MP sensor, limited to 4K video shooting. It has a full frame CMOS sensor, 3-inch fully articulating touchscreen, 1, 620k dots. The viewfinder is an 0.5-inch OLED EVF with 3, 690k dots and 100 per cent coverage. It has a top shooting speed of 20fps.
It is one of the best all-rounder cameras around, with class-leading AF. The camera is suitable for everyday use, as well as for shooting fast actions. It is a great choice, no thanks to its 20MP image sensor and 12 FPS shooting speed.
The camera offers Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system and can shoot up to 12 FPS using mechanical shutter. The EOS R6 stores more images in its buffer – 240 full-size RAW images.
This means that the camera is well suited for capturing fast-moving action. The EOS R6 also has a slightly better low-light sensitivity range, making it better for sports and wildlife photography.
The cameras can record up to 4:2:2 internal video with the H.265 codec and output 4:2:2 10-bit video through their HDMI ports, which is very good. It also comes with WiFi and Bluetooth for connectivity. It is remarkably quick and accurate. With autofocus performance, it arguably good for the newsroom.
Starting with subject detection, looking into a face or eye and then tracking the subject – it is all spot-on pretty much every single time. Every single frame is in sharp focus, as did the sequences of shots of birds, butterfly, and protesters during the #EndSARS protest. The camera is capable of capturing 5472×3648 pixel images.
The R6 has an impressive buffer memory. While a lot will depend on the memory card you’re using, actually, you’d easily be able to save over 1,000 JPEGs or compressed CR3 RAW files to a UHS-II card without the camera slowing down. If you’re shooting uncompressed RAW, then buffer depth would drop significantly to 240 consecutive files.
The R6’s 20MP sensor produces great images, but landscape photographers in particular might not be satisfied with the performance in that regard. With the camera, there is limit to how much you can crop pictures.
R6 came with removable lens, I took some shots during the day with Canon R6, when there it was sunny and I realised that the Images came out very well with details and texture than any other camera. I also use it indoor without flash and it gave me good result.
