Caxton Anokwuru, one of the Africans finest artiste popularly known as Big Icee has raised alarm on how celebrities are influencing the society negatively.
He asserted that the modern society, people get a lot of influence from celebrities in areas such as fashion, politics, and social media. This influence has some positive and negative impacts on people.
This was made known in a statement signed on Wednesday noting that celebrities are not doing enough to influence the society positively rather they do it negatively which has resulted to many woes the society is witnessing today.
He said; “Celebrities are playing a strong role as role models in our society today. Their influence can not be over emphasized. Celebrities has influenced the youth in our society positively and negatively in so many ways.
“Some celebrities have a positive influence on body image discussions. While some are responsible for dealing with their power, but very often, they misuse that power to send out messages that hurt the feelings of many people.
“I thinks celebrities are not doing enough to influence our society positively rather they do it negatively which has resulted to many woes we are witnessing today in the society.
“They are misleading many with their bad behavior, bad attitudes towards life. Take for example many celebrities proudly display hard drugs, display how they get drunk, display how they abuse marijuana and all other hard substances that are harmful. As a result of this many of their followers sees it as right thing to do because this celebrities are doing it.
“This attitude has lead the young and ignorant once, to so many damages in our society as of today.
“Am calling on the celebrities to adjust the displaying of themselves, especially on social media which is now the new media and most consume media by majority of the youth in the world.
The celebrities should please use their platforms to promote a more positive attitude that will help in shaping the future society we want.
“Being a celebrity has a huge impact on Society, and for better or worse, people get a lot of influence from them. However, it is important to think and act on your own initiative and not be influenced too much by celebrities,” the statement added.
