Nigerian celebrities gathered in Lagos to support the Nedu Foundation to assist in providing scholarship aid to 1,000 underprivileged individuals to broaden their horizons in higher education.
The project, founded Nigerian broadcast journalist, Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, aka, Nedu, in partnership with the Metropolitan School of Business and Management, United Kingdom, is to train deserving individuals in disciplines that are relevant now and in the future.
Notable attendees at the scholarship ball include, the 2023 Lagos gubernatorial candidate, Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour; former commissioner for information and strategy, Ogun State, Dayo Adeneye; as well as Nigerian musicians, Tobechukwu Ejiofor, popularly known as Illbliss and Abbey Abuede, known as Steel, among others.
Speaking at the event, Nedu said the gathering was in the spirit of generosity, unity, and boundless hope.
“As we come together for this event, our hearts are filled with a shared purpose, a noble cause that transcends boundaries and touches the very essence of humanity.
“We aim to champion education and pave the way for future leaders, innovators, and change-makers in society. Education is vital for progress as it illuminates the path to a brighter tomorrow; however, too many people face obstacles that hinder their pursuit of knowledge and the realisation of dreams.
“But today, we have the power to tear down those barriers. We have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of thousands of people. As we stand here united in our commitment to present 1,000 scholarships to Nigerians seeking to explore their horizons through tertiary education, each one is a lifeline of hope for deserving individuals yearning for each chance at a better future,” he said.
Nedu said he believes everyone’s support can unlock potential in those who might otherwise be left behind while ensuring talents know no boundaries and opportunities know no limits.
“It is not enough just opening doors to education; equipping students with the necessary tools helps them succeed and that is where every one of you comes in because your support has the power to shape the destiny of these scholars and, by extension, the world,” he said.
Adeneye spoke about how his late father put priority on giving children good education which is more valuable than giving houses or cars.
Nigerian musician and designer, Abbey Abuede, also known as Steel, supported Nedu’s initiative by auctioning some clothing designs- both male and female outfits.
“This is a beautiful initiative since we all know what our country is going through right now and education comes before anything else. There are lots of people out there willing but don’t have financial resources to pursue education,” he said.
