The National Population Commission (NPC) has assured Nigerians of the safety of their personal information during the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

The federal commissioner representing the NPC in Katsina state, Bala Almu-Banye, said this on Wednesday during his address to journalists.

Almu-Banye stated that all NPC officials are under oath to be confidential with the personal information of Nigerians and as such will never disclose vital details.

He, therefore, encouraged residents of communities to cooperate with the enumerators and provide the necessary details about themselves.

“The information will be treated as confidential and only for the purpose of the exercise,” Almu-Banye told newsmen.

“We have all sworn not to reveal people’s secrets, likewise, all the enumerators and supervisors will take oath before they start the exercise.”

Almu-Banye further said that the commission had recruited adequate ad hoc staff for effective coverage of the 2023 census.

The Katsina state NPC federal commissioner added that the personnel will work in their individual Local Government Areas (LGA) to achieve the set targets.

According to him, the information gathered would be digitally transmitted to the commission’s server through the personal digital assistant (PDA) – a machine which operates like a mobile phone.

Almu-Banye also said that the NPC would work with traditional and community leaders to ensure that people living in hard-to-reach areas were duly counted.

Meanwhile, NPC chairman, Nasir Isa Kwarra alongside the DG, Dr. Osifo Tellson Ojogun and management staff of the Commission on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Kim Young-Chae at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Abuja.

NPC in a tweet said the visit was to seek the partnership and support of the Korean government in areas of population management, civil registration and vital statistics, capacity building and the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to approve a new date for the 2023 census which was earlier scheduled for April before it was postponed by his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.
