Chelsea want early conclusion of bid to sign Atletico’s Omorodion

Chelsea do not want their attempt to sign Atletico Madrid attacker Samu Omorodion to drag on and could soon increase their offer.

The forward shone in La Liga while on loan at Alaves last season and is now in demand in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea are admirers of Omorodion and have sent a proposal of €33 million plus a further €7 million in add-ons to Atletico Madrid for their consideration.

The Spanish giants are so far opposed to letting Omorodion depart, but Chelsea are not giving up and, according to Spanish outlet, Mucho Deporte, the Blues do not want the saga to drag on.

Chelsea are keen to push matters along and it is suggested they could soon increase their offer to make a breakthrough.

Omorodion grabbed nine goals in 35 La Liga outings for Alaves last term and Chelsea have seen enough of him to want to take him to Stamford Bridge.

He scored in both Alaves’ meetings with Barcelona, while he also hit the back of the net in each encounter with Villarreal.

The 20-year-old, who is eligible to play for Nigeria, has not yet been capped at senior international level by Spain, but he has turned out for the country’s U-21s.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Atletico Madrid want to keep hold of the striker, believing that he has the potential to do very well for them next season.

Speaking about Chelsea’s interest in Omorodion on Substack, the transfer expert said: “It won’t happen for this money (€30m) and that’s what Atletico Madrid told Chelsea directly, so let’s see what they decide to do now, but Atletico really want to keep the player and they believe he can do fantastically next season under Diego Simeone.

“But with Chelsea we never know what could happen and they could attack the situation again, with contacts still taking place on the player side.”

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea continue their pursuit of Omorodion. If they do not, then that is another striker to cross off their list.

They have reportedly cooled their interest in Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran, while Benjamin Sesko has decided to stay at RB Leipzig, signing a new contract with the German club.

At this rate, Chelsea are going to go into the new season with little cover for Jackson.

Of course, they could just keep Armando Broja at the club, while Christopher Nkunku can also play up top. They could be possible solutions if Chelsea fail to bring in a new No.9 this summer.

The Blues want Omorodion, but Atletico do not want to see him leave it appears.
