Chike, Oxlade reheat passion on Spell remix

Chike
Two of the arguably most enigmatic vocalists in Nigeria, Chike and Oxlade, have stepped out with a duet that might not just return them to the trending charts, but set a template for similar collaborations within the blossoming love music circle in the country. With their emotionally charged remix of Chike’s Spell, they extend their sonic masteries over slow percussions, drowning piano chords and pensive guitar riffs.

Produced by DeeYasso, Spell remix tells a story of the struggles one faces when trying to move forward in a relationship that is not conducive to personal growth. The lyrics are relatable, and the song’s instrumentation and arrangement, which include the piano and guitar, were carefully chosen to inspire Chike.

The message of the song is universal, as almost everyone has experienced a loss of control due to love, lust, attraction, or infatuation. Chike’s lyrics acknowledge this feeling, conveying emotions that are all too real, while Oxlade bends his falsettos to help tarry the same message.

Similarly, its video, directed by the female cine-whiz, Pink of Pinkline Films, is a visual masterpiece that complements the song’s dreamy and trance-like qualities. The warm and sensual visuals are captivating, conveying themes of seduction, love, romance, and lust. The song and video together create a simple yet intimate vision of the record, transporting the viewer to another place entirely.

Spell (Remix) is out across streaming services.
