As China’s top political advisory body begins annual session

The Chairman, 14th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, Wang Huning, Monday, explained that the conference has within the last one year, carried out friendly exchanges with organizations, officials and academicians from other countries to help create a favorable external environment.

Huning, who spoke while delivering a work report of the Standing Committee at the opening meeting of the Second Session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee,


noted that since March last year, the CPPCC National Committee and its affiliated institutions have organized 23 batches of visits to exchange and interacted with more than 200 institutions in 50 countries, established new contacts with 41 foreign think tanks and12 Non-Governmental Organizations.

Over 100 journalists from across the world are participating in the first edition of the exchange programme for the year, 2024.

According to him, the exchanges have helped in deepening foreigners’ understanding of the Chinese modernization as well as its people-oriented democratic culture.

The session, which held at the Great Hall of the People, had the Chinese President, Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders in attendance.

The CPPCC as the top political advisory body in the People’s Republic of China, has told the media ahead of the opening of the second session through the Spokesperson, Lou Qinjian, that China’s has remained consistent in its foreign policies, following principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and a win-win cooperation.

According to him, the country has always pushed for steady, sound and sustainable growth of bilateral relations. He added that with over 240 cooperation involving over 120 countries, CPPCC has worked hard towards building a global community with a shared future.


“We need bridges, not walls. The Belt and Road Initiatives (BRI) is the bridge for mutual benefits”, Qinjian added.

Huning while addressing the session, hinted that quality research and consultations with the people has helped the committee in identifying the needs of the people and helped in suggesting implementable policies for the government.

“Over the past year, the CPPCC has strengthened the overall arrangement of field research, streamlined the number of team members, avoided overlapped research, and reduced the burden on the grassroots”, said Wang.

For the year 2024, the Committee pledged to leverage its role as a specialized consultative body, to closely align with the major decisions of the Central Committee towards addressing the strategic needs of the nation, and carrying out significant practical issues in development.

“The CPPCC should implement its consultation plan for 2024 approved by the CPC Central Committee, strengthen the foundational role of specialized committees and the role of CPPCC members, leverage the advantages of different sectors and conduct thorough investigations and research”, Wang said.
