Choc Boiz reunite for new hip hop cypher

As hip-hop marks its global golden jubilee, Nigerian record company, Chocolate City, has released a legacy-shaping rap cypher to commemorate the genre’s growth in Afrobeats, as well as its own 20th anniversary.

The rap cypher, which can be viewed on their official YouTube channel @Chocolatecitymusic, reunited the label’s erstwhile frontliners and foremost rap veterans MI Abaga, Jesse Jagz, Ice Prince, A-Q, and Loose Kaynon, with Blaqbonez being the only new school rapper in the fray.

The rap cypher, which arguably, tops other recent cyphers released by notable commercial and music-affiliated brands, for its expert delivery from all the emcees involved. While the nostalgia of seeing the Choc Boiz dish out their witty wordplay, and impressive cadence, the themes of unity, legacy and consistency shone through all the verses. It has presented a feel-good catharsis that’s presently strengthening Hip Hop’s big comeback in Afrobeats.

“Through this Cypher, we’re weaving the past, present, and future of Nigerian hip-hop around music that fans will enjoy.”
