Civil society coalition demands justice for slain widow

Nigeria justice

A civil Society Coalition, yesterday, called on security agencies to arrest killers of Mrs. Rebecca Nyihemba, who was burnt to death in her house on March 5, 2021, at Mbatyough, Mbagen in Buruku Local Council of Benue State.

Leader of the group, Justin Gbagir, who made the call at a press conference in Makurdi, lamented that since the death of Nyihemba two years ago, security agencies were yet to arrest perpetrators of the act.

He said: “Two years after her death, her killers are still moving about freely. If nothing is done, it will give them the impetus to commit more crimes.

“Something must be done to give Nyihemba justice. If she gets justice, it would not be only for her but for the entire society.

“Nobody is above the law. So, the law does not allow individuals to perpetrate violence and walk around freely.” He alleged that  the person behind the murder of Nyihemba had vowed to deal with traditional rulers and community leaders who exposed his atrocities. Gbagir also lamented that several petitions were written to the police since her death but they did not act on any of them.

“Failure to act on the petitions, nobody knows who will be next. So, security agencies must rise up  and take the bull by the horn by bringing her killers to book,” he added.
