Professionals, under the aegis of The Secretariat Club, have stressed the need for organisations of experts with lofty aims and ideals to take matters of succession and continuity seriously.
They observed that many professional groups that contributed to the development of the society went into extinction with nobody to continue with their good works or maintain their legacies, simply because they failed to develop succession and continuity plans.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Secretariat Membership Club, Anthony Laleye and a former president of the club, Akin Akinboye, made the observations in a chat at the weekend at the Ikeja secretariat of the club.
Laleye, a lawyer and a former president of the club between 1995 and 1996 explained that having realised the importance of succession to any organisation, The Secretariat Club, since inception in 1991, had been intentional in its pursuits to bequeath its ideals and legacies to vibrant and responsible future leaders, who will keep the flag of the group flying.
He recalled that the club was an offshoot of the Airline Pilots and Flight Engineers Association (APFEAN) and that the secretariat was then referred to as The Pilot Secretariat.
He said though the club then was mainly for pilots and associates in the aviation industry, it accommodated few others from outside the aviation fold, explaining that the club later saw the need to accommodate more other professionals, hence ‘pilot’ was removed from the name of the club to simply read The Secretariat Membership Club.
He also noted that all the changes were made to ensure the continued existence of the club and the ideals it stood for.
