Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) and Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos chapter, have urged its governing council to liaise with the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) to upgrade the college to a degree-awarding institution.
The Chairman of the union, Ebenezer Oje, who stated this at the inaugural meeting of the seventh governing council with the college community, said the institution has staffs that have duly certified Masters and Doctoral degrees in their various fields of specialisation.
He noted that efforts should be made to upgrade existing infrastructure in the institutions to meet up with the demands of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Oje stressed the need to strengthen existing programmes through adequate provision of instructional materials in line with the NCE and NUC minimum requirements.
Provost of the college, Dr. Azeez Ademola, expressed hope that the seventh council will build on the achievements of the sixth council, adding that the welfare of staff and students will be of priority during their three-year tenure.
Chairman, Governing Council, Adamu Muazu, urged members of staff of the institution to ensure that students get value for their money in their educational pursuits.
He said: “Our efforts in the council will revolve around the students because they are the reason we are here. We have the responsibility to ensure that the students get value for whatever they spend coming to this school. We have resolved that we will leave this school much better than we found it.
“Also, the intention we have is the progress of this college; we are a mix of technocrats, academics, technical members. So, we have all the necessary expertise and we will ensure we take this college to the next level,” Muazu added.
